election night drink-a-thon... you know you need it.

so, my tuedsay-night Pacifico co-workers and i have decided that the best thing to do as we watch election night unfold is to hang out with as many of our friends as we can and drink heavily. the ideal scenario is that it is a clear obama victory by about 9pm, so that we can just start doing celebration shots, en masse. i think we all deserve a mental health day on wednesday, people... this has been a long, long road.

if the outcome is still unclear by 9pm, it will still be necessary to drink. to calm our nerves, of course. and the presence of good people and good tunes will make the whole process easier. it's either this, or cling to the edge of your couch, rocking back and forth and mumbling to yourself. or you could take a bunch of sedatives and go to sleep, saving yourself the torment all together. i am not going to judge.

however, i strongly encourage all of my friends and readers in the NYC area, all four of you, to come down to Pacifico and get your election night drank on. we will laugh, we will cry... who knows!

just be there.  xo.

just when you thought this election couldn't get anymore f*%#ed up...

you read this:

McCain Election Worker Fabricates Attack

the blog fairy.

so, a few weeks ago i called kels out on her lack of blogging. and a few days later, she showed up with a shiny new design and renewed blog-commitment. then i moved on to alison, who had not updated her blog in a whole year. it took two harassing emails, but i finally won, and now SHE has a shiny new wonderful blog, which even has a new name! exciting! i first just want to thank these ladies for indulging me in my need for reading material from them both, but then i also want to congratulate them on the awesomeness of their new blogs. they have even inspired me to try and make my tired-looking old blog more exciting. i am a bit slower(i'm old, dude) but i hope eventually mine will look as cool as theirs...

anyhow, now that i am the blog fairy, i think we should continue the trend of hopping through the blogosphere and demanding that favorite bloggers revamp their blogs and start posting again! next up will be CW. his blog hasn't been updated since 2007, and the beginning, no less! unacceptable. aside from that it is boring-looking. and he has tons of internet time at work now so he can certainly take a little time out to tend to the poor thing. i will email him such presently, and add the requisite harassment. after that, who else? ladies? any suggestions? this is like extreme makeover, blog edition, except i am not doing anything but demanding. the blog-owner has to do all the work. but there is no annoying ty pennington, so i feel like i get a pass on the other stuff.

ok, respond with your opinions on whom we should focus our blog-upheaval requests. this is fun!

more halloween ideas

i was also thinking about going as this dude, who is not only a crazy vikings fan, but also a randy "rand university" moss fan, which you would know if you happened to be watching MNF last night and caught the spectacle of him lifting moss off the field and into the stands, post-touchdown. if i am randy moss, i am not sure if i am more or less scared by the fact that he had "randy moss" written on the front of his viking outfit while he was airlifting me off the field. oh, and i won't ask why he is wearing a wrestling belt of some kind. that would be tacky.

Change This Blog Can Believe In, Eventually...

So, yes.  As you can see, I have been experimenting with a new look for this blog, in between the ten trillion other things I have been doing, which is why it is still sorta half-finished and lame. But when I get a minute to check out the HTML mods... well... watch out.  It's probably going to be pretty cool.  Hopefully.

I am also battling a little change-of-season cold, which is nothing major, thank heavens, but which is slowing me down just a bit.  I stayed home this morning from the WC and slept, which was sorely needed.  Now I have to get my ass in gear and get out to school so I can get started on a paper which is due tomorrow and which I have totally screwed myself with by waiting, of course, until the last minute.  As per usual.

In other news, I won my fantasy football matchup this week against the newly croatian Mr. Jordan Taylor.  Word!  Feels good, after my devestating loss the week before to the worst team in the league...  Oh by the way, Jordan and Laura, if this election doesn't go our way in two weeks, you should start looking for a larger place over there, because you are going to have two new roommates.  We are totally out of here.

In happier election news, I got an "Obama Rocks" pin on 86th Street this weekend.  It is giving me hope, for the future.

Finally, Halloween is just around the corner, and we have recently learned that Martinodelmundo is having a par-tay!  Everyone knows that Martino's parties are the best around.  His family always winds up getting like four tents and having like 600 people over.  Now I just have to figure out what the hell I am going to be!  Charles almost agreed to be 2/3rds of the Jonas Brothers with me, but A)we need a third(unless we find a way to cleverly represent the missing one- that could be interesting and B) he already has a costume idea that he wants to do, some nerd shit or something.

Speaking of nerd shit, I was seriously thinking about being MasterChief of Halo fame, but the costume (the cheap one) looks a bit too "Airborne Ranger" and not enough "SuperSoldier" if you ask me.  And where is my friggin' assault rifle?  I mean... That's the piece de resistance, no??  I might do it anyhow, just because it will be a hell of a lot warmer than getting dressed up as a fairy or supergirl or something like that.  Also, Alison will love it.

Not everything sucks... Look!

With all this bad economic news, and with old codger trolls and crazy zealot moosehunters trying to storm the White House, things can seem kinda bleak lately.  But here are some pictures from Week 3 of the Dance Literacy project my great and wonderful friend Leanne and I developed to present at the Aguilar and Harlem libraries this month.  It has been going so amazingly well and I really want to blog a bit about the actual sessions, but for now, I will just post a few pics, as I am once again running out the door for another borough of this great town.

Here you go!

wow.

hey friends,  for anyone who has not already acquainted themselves with the amazingness of melody gardot, do so immediately. you will not be disappointed.  kinda like what i would expect if jeff buckley and fiona apple could somehow sonically fuse, which would, of course be quite a feat for a good many reasons.

i am quite late to the melody gardot party, but i figured i would post about her anyhow, just for anyone living in a cave like myself.  thanks, catherine, for enlightening me...

mail goggles. for all your drunk emailing needs.

soon, google is going to have an application you can implant in your brain which will allow you to never have to type anything again, you can just think it and google with do stuff with it and send the result straight to your cranium.  or whatever part of your brain should get it.  help me, google!  i am an imbicile!

GOOGLE MAIL GOGGLES!   kinda rips off my breathalyzer phone, but much more practical.  however, i can still do math when i am drunk, dude.  hello... cell phone calculator.

um, kels...

i am pretty much going to declare your blog officially dead, unless you give me some new material pretty soon. sarah silverman?? i fucked matt damon??? her and jimmy kimmel broke up and got back together already and that is still your latest post! i know you are a mom, so i have cut you some slack. but i am pretty sure you have had a couple of minutes since february. you have time to post witty comments on my blog. how about you take a few of those comment posting minutes and put them together for a post. please!?!?!? all my fellow bloggers have deserted me. tomorrow i am gonna hit up alison about her year-long absence. too much facebook, y'all!!!

stairs are not my friend

i am still hobbling around, and now my "good" leg is in almost as much pain as the bad one, since i spent all of yesterday on my feet at two different jobs and that one poor leg supported all of it. smart.

but you know... what can i do? as wu, and later (to cw's dismay) wyclef, say: cash rules everything around me...

dolla dolla bill, y'all.

luckily we poor peeps are not the ones in worst trouble, it seems(at least for a minute). i have been silently giggling at all the people around me who are freaking about their lost money on the stock market and elsewhere around the financial world. i have nothing to lose, monetarily! word to the working poor.

although i do have to traipse around on a busted knee, so i won't giggle for too long, eh?

lots of stuff going on, namely moving on from the library to get more fully involved at LaGuardia. It is definitley sad to leave my dudes at AG but i have to seize this opportunity with both hands. i am so in love with my LaG job and i can't wait to do it full time... and with marriage and babies(baby) in the no-longer-so distant future, i have to get moving! i will be finished with my MA in under a year, so...

the dance literacy project that leanne and i are orchestrating is absolutely amazing as well. i am so proud of us- we make a really good team, and i hope that this is going to turn into a lasting and growing partnership, which will lead us to even greater things. i plan to propose a presentation of this concept for inclusion in The Ohio State University Literacy Conference, in April. Harvey Graff, Shirley Brice Heath and a lot of other "big names" in literacy studies are going to be on hand, and I think our project is really well-suited for the overall theme and direction of the conference. i am so excited, and i can't actually get over the fact that i am excited to do something that will require me to make a big huge presentation to a bunch of strangers, but... it's been happening a lot lately.

planning our engagement party as well, which i think is going to be super cool and which takes some of the overwhelmingness away from planning our wedding... i always assumed that doing something laid back and simple for one's wedding would reduce the amount of stress involved, but somehow that's the opposite of what is happening! not really, i exaggerate. but there are a lot of considerations, which i guess i didn't, well, consider. that's the real issue, but it will all work out no doubt and be totally fucking awesome, we are going to make sure of it!

i get to go see my favorite child in the whole universe tomorrow, shaela rose... she is so amazing. everytime i go a week without seeing her, something crazy happens, like she starts walking, or has forty-seven teeth. stop growing up so fast, all the way out there in brooklyn! or, rather i guess it's ok to grow up fast shaela. we are going to need you for a babysitter...

who the fuck is joe sixpack?

(maybe he works at chippendales?)

i mean, we don't get down with less than a twelve pack around these parts, and i think i can speak for my fellow americans when i say a freakin' six pack is for pussies in times as economically disasterous as these.  house forclosure is more like a fifth of johnny walker, dude. every day for about six months or so.  or, if you plan to get on your feet again and want to save money, a handle of cheap-ass vodka.  throw some cranberry in that and your set!

a six-pack?  really?  come on lady, your husband has a DUI, so i know you folks are putting back more than a sixer up there on main street in wasilla!  you said it yourself, the american peeps want to be leveled with, and we want our circumstantial alcholism recognized!  haven't you watched celebrity rehab with dr. drew??  or more importantly, busted on MTV?  these are your diddly do, hidey ho neighbors, ned flanders!  actually, i retract the statement about the dr. drew folks... i doubt they are republicans.  one is the former drummer of guns and roses, for christ sake.  and the busted kids are too busy giving themselves increasingly debilitating cases of alcohol poisioning, while searching desperately for the girls gone wild van, to claim party affiliation, or to even know there is such a thing.

sorry, i've left the topic completely, which is actually right in keeping with this, my reaction to last evening's vice-presidential "debate."  i am only able to use that word in parentheses, folks.

this strange blog post you are reading is all i can muster, after spending much of my time between 9-10:30 pm last evening in a catatonic state, after having been overloaded in the first minute with too many "you betchas" and "darn rights!" and "sure do's!" in that "fargo" voice of hers, coupled with the let-down of joe biden, who as one blogger noted, looked as if he had just smoked a bowl.

at the outset, his ultra-laid back state seemed like it would be a plus.  I suspected that joe would just let ol' moosehunter ramble off down the road to complete nonsense while lulling her into a false sense of security.  his innocuous smiling would make her feel like she "had him." however, i assumed he would then enter what would normally be the munchies stage of being high, which is when the person in question becomes completely and totally focused on a singular goal, the pursuit of which they execute with near surgical precision, and with no concern for whatever "obstacles" or in this case "dingbat governors" that might be in the way.

usually this means finding the nearest bag of doritos in record time, or concluding that one should use a chopstick to spread peanut butter since there are no clean knives, forks or spoons. but here i thought it might translate into joe biden laying the f-ing smackdown on the hockey mom in one fail swoop, in a culmination of calling out all of the outlandish, retarded and often completely fabricated things that came out of her mouth.  she was pitching meatball after meatball, right over the plate.  but no, biden just kept grinning and occasionally shooting her the evil eye, which i eventually realized did not indicate that he was getting ready for the delta strike i was hoping for, but rather, finding her amusing and wondering when this would be over so he could get some ring-dings and cheetos.  you failed me, joe biden!  you failed...

in all fairness, i am assuming he was instructed by the campaign to not go after her total ignoramus routine, since she has been doing a pretty good job of taking that to the streets herself... see katie couric interview, charlie gibson interview, meet and greet with voters at some local burger joint captured on camera phone, etc. etc. etc.  but god, i just wanted him to lay into her once, just ONCE... when she finished one of those babbling spells where she sounded exactly like a tenth grader trying to get through their ten-minute oral report on India, which they researched using only the encyclopedia britannica the night before, while their teacher snoozed at the desk and the rest of the class did their homework and talked amongst themselves, i wish he had just said "Excuse me, Gwen, I just want to go back and ask the Governor: What did you just say?  Was there a complete, coherent thought in that string of sentences you just gave us, or where you just pulling those out of the air?  Can I ask you to explain what you mean by any of that?  Any part at all, one sentence?  One thought?  One phrase?  Can you back that up in even a basic, I-understand-these-words-that-are-coming-out-of-my-mouth sort of way?"

actually, for that part, he could have just delivered the speech from the debate at the end of billy madison, or better yet, gwen could have delivered it.  that would have been more appropriate.

i orginially intended to just write that little bit about joe six-pack, honestly.  but i guess i needed a little more venting.  after all, cw and i spent the last hour of that crap display discussing which city in canada we will be the least adverse to moving to if this stupid ho-bag gets elected.  i refuse to look at her stupid face and hear her stupid voice for four years, i won't do it.  and if the american people are dumb enough(again!) to buy into this craptacular nonsense, then i will get ready to start saying "eh!" and "aboot!" cause i am getting the fuck out of here, eh?  i don't even know how you punctuate that.

i know i am overreacting, but it is hard not to, just due to the fact that she is even present in this campaign.  this is a complete and total insult to every person in this country.  every one, except maybe george bush and co.  and that's because they are the same insult.  but come on people!  let's get this bitch out of here so we will never have to see her again after next month!  i want her to crawl back to wasilla and resume drinking and driving with todd, the first dude.  that's where she belongs.

oh, and one final thing- if this whole thing becomes a joke on nov. 5th, which i pray with all my heart that it does and crazy ol' moosehunter becomes the stuff of legend, as in "holy crap!  remember when the republicans put that chick from alaska on the ticket? that was insane!"  then i will forever laugh at her calling sen. biden "joe o'biden" by accident.  that shit was hilarious.  but right now it is also terrifying.
