x-mas is just around the corner people, but i'm sure you know that because it's no longer optional to bow out of christmas. the advertisting industry has seen to that. so if you wanna keep up with how to not get x-mas madness that makes you want to write off the human race and go live in a cave(one that the reality tv cameras cannot find, if there are any of those) the new method relies heavily upon your own discretion.
you could conveniently plan a vacation to a very far off land that isn't married to western religious practices.
you could fake a serious bout of a contagious illness and stay home for two days alone eating take-in and watching the wire on HBO(or any show, but for my money, i can't find another piece of television programming as totally awesome as the wire)
these are all options. this year, i have decided that, in addition to my other rebellious x-mas plans (cw and i will spend x-mas eve getting soused on wine or whatever we have around and engaging in our annual christmas eve scrabble takedown. the rubber match is inevitable. and on x-mas day, we are hopefully to ascend the empire state building, something which neither of us has ever done) i will endeavor to try something new. i think this year i am going to try and cook a ham, while swilling some pomagranate champagne punch, both of which i will create and serve at my moms house while we are visiting this weekend. i have never cooked a ham before. it just occured to me as something i ought to try.
oh! and i will probably soundtrack all of this with the Sufjan Stevens Songs for Christmas Singalong, which is an entirely awesome 5-disc collection of the incomprable Sufjan Stevens doing all manner and sorts of christmas songs. i picked it up yesterday while shopping for my ghost recon parcel delivery heirarchy present(read: secret santa) because i can't help but buy myself things, even at christmas time, and also because it is SO GOOD. you need this collection, trust me you do. it comes with stickers.
in other news, i am proud to report that i got an A in my first class of my graduate school career. that means i have a 4.0, and that i should cherish that because it likely won't last, especially since i am taking 3 classes next semester... yikes. one is a lit elective on herman melville, which should be cool...i always liked ol' herman. of course, all this is contigent on the nice loan people giving me the necessary funds to continue my education. please loan people! please!
well, i hope everyone who reads this post has a great holiday, and does whatever they can to not get bogged down by the joyless side of x-mas. remember! make a ham and play some scrabble! it's a great time.
oh, and if i could put in for some snow...that would make everything that much better,
