all you wanna do is be the fire part of fire...

hey kids! it's only day two of my centro-less life and already i am experiencing a creative landslide the likes of which i haven't had in months. it's grand. and amazing what a departure from the grim world of serving lunch to corporate finance doucebags will do for the old creative juices.

i've already started researching a book i want to write, applying for several volunteer positions, and generally feeling like a real person again. who knew?

i don't even have it yet and i already know that the new bill callahan record is amazing... ok, kelli told me, but also i went to www.hypem.net where you can preview all sorts of music(and find some old depeche mode tracks to crank while you do the dishes too, if you feel like it) and listened to "sycamore" like fifty gazillion times. god, i really love bill callahan. kels and i got to see him at alley katz in richmond a few years ago, and it was one of the cooler live shows i have been lucky enough to catch.

i must send some congrats out to tre bien, on his recent nintendo wii acquisition... strong work, dude. i'll be over for some mario tennis, no doubt. watch out when i, as shy guy, rush the net...it's devastating.

that's all for now...it's almost time to go watch the nfl draft, which espn has had a hard-on about for a good two months. after that, i'm gonna head downtown and pick up some stephon marbury-endorsed starbury sneaks for 14.98+tax, specifically the cyclone II... 'cause i'm a cool kid.

i ain't gonna work on maggie's farm no more...

oh, glorious, glorious day... the day when i finally get to report, or rather shout from the roof top(or fire escape) that i will never again have to set foot in cafe centro as an employee/indentured servant/corporate lackey. that's right, y'all... i am free! i have finally managed to pull my shit together to the point where i landed, and started, another job. a job, mind you, where i get to wear my own clothes and i don't have twelve bosses and the customers are not constantly searching for ways to make you aware of the fact that they could quite literally own your ass if you slowed down long enough for them to catch you...

it really feels great. i left centro earlier than i intended, mainly because i was at work yesterday, taking the normal lineup of shit and i realized that i didn't have to be there anymore! i could leave! i had another source of income! and so that's what i did. it was wonderful.

no more carnival barker outfit! no more meetings in which i am instructed to "sell sell sell!" no more being treated like a sixth grader who has been deemed slightly too precocious. no more hedge funds! no more trust funds! no more old bitches who have never worked a day in their crotchety waspy life yelling at me for not telling them the brand name of our sparkling water! no more working banquet events with thousands of dollars in gratuities that i never see, and instead am expected to accept an hourly rate! no more t. todd, or karim abdul jabbar, or crazy bread-cheese-olive lady! no more mr. wallace and his ugly-ass, strangled-in-the-throes-of-puberty son!

oh boy. there has been a lot building up over the past year, let me tell ye... it's my own fault for letting it go on this long, but truthfully, restaurant jobs of the sort i am interested in are somewhat hard to come by, and it is only by the grace of a good friend that i found the one i now have... and i didn't want to trade one hell for another.

i am proud to say that i made a promise to myself that i would not work another summer there, and i made it in just under the wire on the fulfillment of that promise. but i made it.

the new place is called pacifico, it's on smith street and pacific in boerum hill, carroll gardens, brooklyn heights, whatever the heck you call that part of brooklyn and i invite any and all of my friends and fam down for some margaritas and mexican... it's good stuff.

and now, since i won't be working six days a week, maybe i will have some time to actually do stuff! like radio, or some volunteering or god, i don't even know! the possibilities are endless.

i've got an x-box where my heart used to be.

i know quotes have their own page, but my brother and sister got in the same room last night and they were like a quote machine. i think they deserve some front page action.

here we go.

"cadbury eggs. the devil's laxitive." -brain

"it's my spring break! that means we're gonna party like it's 1999! when i was 18... or 19... or 20. young. YOUNGER THAN I AM NOW!" -ab

"And you know mom doesn't start a conversation that doesn't end two hours later." -brain

"Tell me you have pocket cowboys, cowboy. Some of that brokeback shit." -ab, to charles.

"I will never eat another cadbury egg. Until I get home and eat another cadbury egg." -brain

"Marty doesn't know what's going on. He's seeing care bears right now." -ab

"Brain's got them dark forces. He got the cadbury eggs." -ab

"You gotta realize, champions think singularly." -ab

alex rodriguez, welcome to the new york yankees.

it has been an interesting holiday weekend, sports-wise... first of all, someone apparently sprinkled some confidence on a-rod's wheaties, because he's been on fire for days now. first he does this, and then again today does this, prompting me to inquire as to whether we were sure we were in fact watching today's game, and not the replay of yesterdays. nope, it's true. a-rod is a home run machine of late, and in the clutch no less. it's stupefying.

also in the stupefying category is the thirty-one year old who snuck past an ailing tiger and won the masters this afternoon. as of last night, another dude by the name of stuart applesauce, or something like that, was in the lead. however, a long night of lying awake thinking of how he was going to have to spend the day playing alongside tiger while trying to maintain that(shaky) lead ensured, as charles put it, that he would choke on every one of his golf clubs before collapsing spectacularly in a series of thrice blown putts and triple bogeys. that prophecy held up, but then this other guy was suddenly on the scene, i think his name is zack, a moniker that screams "i should be playing tony hawk on playstation 2 instead of rocking the leaderboard at the masters". i mean, come on. tiger versus zack? who are you putting your money on? i know who i have, but i lose, cause ol' zack put down the ps2 controller for a couple of days and pissed off el tigre something fierce.

anyhow. also on the tiger woods front: his baby is due really soon, and i am thinking that the only thing you could possibly name this kid is liger. is there any other option? not really. and i hope this kid is ready to enjoy the fuck out his first 18 months, cause thats about all the lolling around he(or she) is ever going to do. as soon as that kid can pull itself into a semi-upright position, it's going to be holding a golf club. and it better not choke on it, like stuart applesauce.

finally, i have discovered that the YES network(official propaganda machine of the new york fucking yankees, in case you didn't know) is now running the white shadow, which is the sports guy's favorite television program of all time, as he attests here. i thought that was great: the sports guy's favorite tv show running on the network run, in his boston redsox-tainted opinion, by the antichrist. but then i realized that you can buy the show on dvd. kinda ruined the moment for me.
