better than a sharp stick in the eye. maybe.

i hate moving. i absolutely loathe moving. in fact, the only thing the act of moving inspires in me is a desire to get rid of everything i own.

of course, when i start trying to actually do that, i think of four trillion reasons why i still need that blue sweater i haven't worn since january 2002, or why it might be necessary for me to still have fifteen back issues of vanity fair. and then i wind up lugging pounds of uselessness around town. AGAIN. i have moved more times in the past ten years than i can even remember. every time i turn around, i'm moving again. kels and i sat at work last night mulling the whole process over, and we realized that the next time we have half a chance of having any sort of settled-ness, it will be next fall. if we're lucky. from here on out it's back to travelling via the seat of our pants.

i should quit bitching. i am nothing if not ridiculously excited for the actual location change. it's just the moving that makes me want to start taking hostages. i should just keep a bunch of freelance movers on retainer so that when i need to go, i just call them up and they take care of it. if i could swing something like that, i'd be a happy lady. oh, and if i could find someone to paint my apartment for free, that'd be pretty sweet too.

other than dreading a lot of heavy lifting, i've mostly been watching copious amounts of basketball, making plans to construct a giant paper mache(maiche? how the hell is that spelled? and i think it is papier, no?) steelers helmet to put on my sister's front lawn for the super bowl, being tired for no apparent reason and looking forward to spring. pretty boring, except for the helmet...that ought to piss a lot of neighbors off.

a change is gonna come

'nothing with your life...'

depending on how i spin it around, where it stops and what angle i am afforded when it does, my life can seem rather varied in how i would describe the state of things. zoom in here, and there is potential disaster. zoom in there, my potential for greatness is climbing to new heights.

but what is disaster, what is greatness anyhow? a simple twist of perception, i think. one way or another, it all just is. and i am in the middle. and so i keep on doing whatever it is that i do. i've been quite a bit more involved in things other than 'what i do' lately, which is interesting. i have always been so inwardly turned. not so much anymore.

it has taken another to draw it out of me, not by force but just by being himself. and i get scared, but we keep on rolling along nonetheless.

i'm fucking thirsty. and no, that is not a metaphor. i just had the last drop of my perfect-sized bottle of water, the moniker of which may have to be re-evaluated in light of my heightened thirst, and a slow steady panic has spread over me. i am not drinking from the tap here; richmond tap water elicits a fear in the deepest depths of my inner hypochondriac. i need a vitamin-water spring installed in my apartment. that would solve a lot right now. most importantly, my thirst.

i wish i had more to say. i do, but it's behind stuff and other stuff and some more stuff in my brain, and now i have someone else to say it to as well, so a lot of it has been going there. but i have a feeling it will all balance out pretty soon and i will be back up and running on the old blogaroo. i need to get back to the social commentary, i suppose, but my social commentary has been confined to hating on just about everyone and everything lately, so that gets boring.

how do you want it?

had a really stellar new years eve...like christmas, it was loosely planned and laid back and filled with people whom i love the hell out of. the only difference was the dance party, and believe me, we only improved upon christmas with the addition of the dance party.

quote of the night, via a.b. "this is the only horn in the bar! you gotta blow it like it's the only horn in the bar!"

i'll have been writing this blog for a year in just a few weeks, the first anniversary of which coincides with the second anniversary of our stay in richmond. it's interesting to look at where we find ourselves now, after two years and many different stages of richmond existence. i'll spare you the ruminations, suffice to say a whole hell of a lot has changed, and things are going well. very very well.

i get to take a certain man to new york for his very first time this week, an experience that will be a first for both of us, as i can't say i've ever been in the company of someone who is seeing it for the first time. what a concept that is, eh?

other than that, trying to remain un-sick in the midst of prevailing illness, trying to maintain some sort of financial well-being, (although that is a joke which will only be amplified by my entrance into the empire state) and trying to figure out just what the hell it is i think i'm doing.

the cable internet is still off(see financial stability joke above) so any and all posts on this thing come in little scraps of internet time i can snag from various sources. right now, i'm stealing this moment from my neighbors. viva la wireless.
