So... when is the next time we are going to elect a black president for the first time? yes, that's right. NEVER. so as i have said in the group email I sent around to many of you, i think you should really consider joining CW and i on our trip to DC for the inauguration on Jan. 20th.
here's the thing: i know that there are gonna be forty gajillion people there and it's going to be cold and hard to see and the public transportation is gonna be nuts and blahsity blah blah blah, but you know what? i can guarantee that it is going to be worth it. there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that roaming the streets of DC that day is going to be the experience of a lifetime, and i, for one, am not going to overthink the logistics of participating in such a momentous occasion.
i mean, once-upon-a-time i used to subject myself to "showering" at a knee-high spigot, poo-ing in porta-potties, braving monsoon-like rainstorms that drenched every peice of clothing and gear i had brought on the 500 mile trip to northern maine or wherever, and living off of grilled cheese prepared by kids who had not stayed anyplace with indoor plumbing for three months. and that was all just so i could take a bunch of acid and see phish play concerts three days in a row! this is history, folks! i can squeeze on to some trains and be cold for a few hours.
someday i will get to tell the seed* about how i ran the streets of DC with daddy and _______(insert your names here) the day we inaugurated our first black president. i plan on racking up a significant amount of anecdotes and stuff, and i can only do that from in the thick of things.
so basically, i am posting this to implore you to think about how much this event means and how much you will thank yourself later for taking part in it. it's gonna be super awesome, i promise.
*the seed is what we are hereby referring to our unborn child as until the day he or she is born.
