alex rodriguez, welcome to the new york yankees.

it has been an interesting holiday weekend, sports-wise... first of all, someone apparently sprinkled some confidence on a-rod's wheaties, because he's been on fire for days now. first he does this, and then again today does this, prompting me to inquire as to whether we were sure we were in fact watching today's game, and not the replay of yesterdays. nope, it's true. a-rod is a home run machine of late, and in the clutch no less. it's stupefying.

also in the stupefying category is the thirty-one year old who snuck past an ailing tiger and won the masters this afternoon. as of last night, another dude by the name of stuart applesauce, or something like that, was in the lead. however, a long night of lying awake thinking of how he was going to have to spend the day playing alongside tiger while trying to maintain that(shaky) lead ensured, as charles put it, that he would choke on every one of his golf clubs before collapsing spectacularly in a series of thrice blown putts and triple bogeys. that prophecy held up, but then this other guy was suddenly on the scene, i think his name is zack, a moniker that screams "i should be playing tony hawk on playstation 2 instead of rocking the leaderboard at the masters". i mean, come on. tiger versus zack? who are you putting your money on? i know who i have, but i lose, cause ol' zack put down the ps2 controller for a couple of days and pissed off el tigre something fierce.

anyhow. also on the tiger woods front: his baby is due really soon, and i am thinking that the only thing you could possibly name this kid is liger. is there any other option? not really. and i hope this kid is ready to enjoy the fuck out his first 18 months, cause thats about all the lolling around he(or she) is ever going to do. as soon as that kid can pull itself into a semi-upright position, it's going to be holding a golf club. and it better not choke on it, like stuart applesauce.

finally, i have discovered that the YES network(official propaganda machine of the new york fucking yankees, in case you didn't know) is now running the white shadow, which is the sports guy's favorite television program of all time, as he attests here. i thought that was great: the sports guy's favorite tv show running on the network run, in his boston redsox-tainted opinion, by the antichrist. but then i realized that you can buy the show on dvd. kinda ruined the moment for me.
